Paragon – IP/Ethernet Network Emulator

Paragon provides Delay and Inline Impairment Network Emulation for operators, equipment manufacturers, applications developers or test laboratories to understand how their products will perform in real-world IP/Ethernet networks. It gives you confidence – confidence that you can develop and retain stronger customer relationships through robustly-tested, standards-compliant, working, dependable products. It will also minimise the costly implications of product rewrites, recalls and a tarnished brand image.

Paragon provides visibility and management of a number of testing scenarios:

  • emulate a network or a network element in a controlled, repeatable way
  • introduce impairments and understand the impact of test stress
  • capture and replay real-network Jitter (PDV)
  • support for all common LAN/WAN protocols – Ethernet, VLAN, TCP/IP, MPLS, etc.

The Paragon emulates the conditions that cause network congestion, slow links, time outs, and many other adverse network behaviour. Specialist testing managers with network communications responsibility can then see the effects on the device or application, help identify and fix bugs, solve network problems, and establish the limits of device and application performance.

Two unique features of the Paragon solution are:

  1. FlowWizard – automatically identifies all flows and sets the hardware filters to target the flows of interest. This saves valuable setup and test time.
  2. Hardware timestamping – real nanoseconds accuracy to stress applications and devices that are sensitive to sub-millisecond timing variation.

Supported features:

  • packet corruption –
    • errored, lost, repeated packets
    • mis-ordered event, configurable depth control
    • corruption modes: single, burst, rate (%), constant
    • full bi-directional support
    • byte overwrite, up to 4 bytes in the first 256 bytes of frame – replace/overwrite value
  • switch simulation – emulate a real network or network element via one or any combination of
    • latency: 1us to 2 seconds fixed latency
    • buffer depth: 1000 to 1,000,000 bytes
    • bandwidth: 1 to 100%
  • timing accuracy of jitter (PDV): 5 nsec
  • capture, modify and replay network jitter (PDVs) over minutes, hours or days
