Huawei Tests Sync-E and PTP with Calnex

Paris, France February 2009

Huawei Technologies, and Calnex Solutions today demonstrated the successful operation and interworking of Sync-E and 1588v2 PTP solutions at the 2009 MPLS & Ethernet World Congress. The demonstration was part of the multi-vendor MPLS & Ethernet Interoperability Test Event organized by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) and showcased at the event in Paris.

The Huawei CX600-X3 Metro Service Platform successfully completed the Synchronous Ethernet and IEEE 1588-2008 tests.

The Calnex Paragon test solution for Sync-E and 1588v2 was used to verify the solution’s interoperability and to measure accurate clocking and synchronization according to the ITU-T Recommendations.

Sync-E (or Synchronous Ethernet) and 1588v2 PTP (or Precision Time Protocol) are key technologies that enable accurate synchronisation to be delivered to mobile base stations via far more cost-effective Ethernet links. Mobile operators can implement these technologies to deliver reliable transport for the high-bandwidth demands of next-generation mobile services such as HSDPA and LTE.

The Huawei CX600-X3, newly developed on the Huawei routing platform, interoperated with other vendors successfully in test cases such as L2 MPLS VPN, IPv6 L3 MPLS VPN, 1588v2 and TDM Circuit Emulation Services. It is a unique metro equipment in the industry to support both fixed and mobile service transport in different FMC scenarios.

The Calnex Paragon is the world’s first solution for testing and verifying PTP and Sync-E to the ITU-T G.8261 and G.8262 standards. It helps equipment manufacturers and operators prove all Sync over Packet technologies prior to deployment in a real network.
