Calnex Demonstrates SyncE Performance with Aviat Networks
23 September 2010
Warsaw, Poland. Calnex Solutions and Aviat Networks announced a successful performance test and demonstration of Synchronous Ethernet (Sync-E). The test was conducted as part of the EANTC Multi-vendor Interoperability test event, which was showcased at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress here today.
Sync-E is a critical technology that allows Mobile Network operators to deploy much-needed bandwidth in their backhaul networks using Ethernet while maintaining the synchronisation required by mobile base-stations to function. Ethernet microwave systems serve a vital purpose in these backhaul networks and as such must be tested and proven to industry-wide performance standards.
The Calnex Paragon allows equipment manufacturers and operators to test the performance of Sync-E to the ITU-T G.8262 performance standards. Aviat Networks recently added enhanced Ethernet switching capability to its Eclipse Packet Node family of products and these were tested and proven to operate within the rigorous performance limits.
“Aviat Networks successfully completed the testing of their latest Eclipse solutions alongside 23 other vendors to demonstrate the viability of Ethernet microwave and SyncE for 3G and LTE mobile backhaul applications. The Calnex Paragon allowed us to test and prove the performance of the Aviat systems and found the synchronization quality was within limits of the G.823 SSU mask for one hour,” said Carsten Rossenhövel, Managing Director at EANTC.
Details of the tests and the platforms are in the Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test White Paper, which can be downloaded at www.eantc.com/cewc2010.
