Calnex Delivers World's First Sync-E Tester
November 2008
Calnex Solutions today announced it had successfully delivered the world’s first solution for measuring wander of Synchronous Ethernet (or Sync-E) to a Tier-1 European Service Provider. Sync-E is a technology that allows service providers to deliver accurate Synchronisation, required by applications such as Mobile Backhaul, via Ethernet links.
This leads to substantial cost savings for the mobile operators, who can migrate the backhaul networks to Ethernet.
A number of key service providers and system vendors have expressed support for Sync-E as the technology of choice to migrate legacy backhaul links to Ethernet.
Tommy Cook, Calnex CEO said “Sync-E must be tested and validated for timing accuracy by performing a wander measurement. Now, for the first time, service providers can make a wander measurement on the Ethernet interface and prove before deployment."

For most, the migration to an all-Ethernet or all-IP network will be a gradual process as network operators endeavour to maximise the lifespan of their existing TDM assets.
