CALNEX BREAKS NEW GROUND IN 1588v2 TESTING

Successful 1588v2 Boundary Clock Interop and Performance Public Test

Amsterdam – 11 October 2011. Calnex Solutions demonstrated the successful completion of testing a 1588v2 Boundary Clock at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress event here today. The test was part of the EANTC Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test showcase at the event.

1588v2 Boundary Clocks are recognised as a vital element in delivering accurate synchronisation via Carrier Ethernet networks. This is a mandatory requirement of revenue-critical networks for application such as LTE backhaul, High-Frequency Trading and Data Centre connectivity.

The Ericsson Mini-Link SP310 was shown by the Calnex Paragon-X to deliver accurate synchronisation within the limits specified by the revenue-critical applications above.

Calnex’s Paragon-X is an all-in-one solution for validating 1588v2 clock equipment, acting as both a network emulator and a clock quality measurement tool.

In the EANTC test, the Paragon-X was placed between a 1588v2 Grand Master and the Ericsson MINI-LINK SP 310 to add network impairments. The SP310 acted as Boundary Clock, which provided clocking to an Ericsson MINI-LINK SP 110. The Paragon-X was then used to measure the 2MHz frequency and 1PPS phase stability, both recovered by the SP 110. The test results showed good interoperability and performance by the Ericsson systems.

Carsten Rossenhoevel, Managing Director of EANTC said “We are always keen to test the very latest developments in a technology and the IEEE 1588v2 Boundary Clock is such a development. The Calnex Paragon-X allowed us to measure and verify that clock performance delivered by the Boundary Clock was within the standards-based frequency and phase performance limits.”

Details of the tests and the platforms are in the Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test White Paper, which can be downloaded at www.eantc.com/cewc2011.

Calnex Joins Symmetricom’s SyncWorld™ Ecosystem Program

Edinburgh, Scotland - 17 June 2011 - Calnex Solutions today announced that it joined Symmetricom’s, (NASDAQ:SYMM), SyncWorld™ Ecosystem Program. Symmetricom is a world leader in precise time solutions. SyncWorld was established to promote interoperability among vendors to support the implementation of precise timing and synchronization solutions.

Symmetricom’s leading timing solutions are part of high-performance communications networks and systems that are the core elements of today’s state-of-the-art communications networks. The Calnex Paragon systems allow equipment manufacturers and network operators to test and troubleshoot the networks and systems and demonstrate the accurate performance before, during and after deployment.

Tests that have been done broadly cover two areas – Interoperability and Performance. At Interoperability test events, such as the EANTC Interop (www.eantc.com), the Symmetricom TimeProvider® 5000 Grandmaster Clock was demonstrated using the Calnex Paragon to successfully operate with equipment from numerous different manufacturers. Interoperability is a key challenge for network operators, which the Symmetricom TimeProvider® 5000 addresses successfully. For the Performance tests, the Calnex Paragon-X platform was used to emulate real network stress conditions and measure the quality of the recovered clock between the Symmetricom TimeProvider® 5000 Grandmaster and the TimeProvider® 500 slave clock. These performance tests demonstrated that the Symmetricom equipment operated within the specified network limits even under demanding load conditions.

“As leaders in our sector, we are delighted to join this initiative started by the leading light in the Ethernet Synchronisation sector. Co-operating with Symmetricom, the world’s timekeeper allows Calnex to develop advanced test and analysis features that will help our customers troubleshoot and deploy synchronisation solutions with confidence,” said Calnex CEO, Tommy Cook.

“We are pleased to have Calnex join the SyncWorld Ecosystem Program to support industry interoperability among all members of the communications value chain,” said Symmetricom Vice President Marketing, Manish Gupta. “The ability to demonstrate and document the performance of our solutions accelerates the adoption of precise timing and synchronisation solutions to support next generation requirements.”

Calnex Supports IXIA Test Conductor

Edinburgh, Scotland - 22 February 2011. Calnex Solutions announced today that it now supports Ixia’s Test Conductor automation framework. Calnex and IXIA demonstrated this at the EANTC Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test, which was showcased at the recent MPLS & Ethernet World Congress event.

Test Conductor allows developers and testers using both Calnex’s Paragon impairment test solution and Ixia’s IP performance test solution to fully automate IP equipment and service testing. Pairing Calnex and Ixia products speeds up development and drastically cuts time to market.

The move to Carrier Ethernet is both cost effective and forward-thinking. However, switching to all-IP-based networks requires confidence from both providers and customers. Both Calnex and Ixia want to provide solutions that satisfy their customers. The conjunction of their test tools creates a powerful total test solution for timing technologies such as IEEE 1588v2 and Synchronous Ethernet, as well as Ethernet OAM standards such as ITU-T Y.1731.

“The move to a Carrier Ethernet architecture requires thorough testing and validation. Providers must be confident that their timing synchronization and OAM implementations will be as reliable as past technologies, and customers must be happy with their quality of experience (QoE),” said Michael Haugh, Senior Product Manager at Ixia. “Ixia’s Test Conductor framework provides the right set of tools to speed up test cycles, cover more test cases, and get products to market faster so that providers realize their goals of excellent QoE.”

”Getting products to market quickly is an imperative in the rapidly-changing networking landscape. We hear many of our customers tell us that they need to integrate test automation in their product QA cycles,” said Anand Ram, Calnex’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “The Calnex and Ixia solutions complement each other well, and together achieve the goal of providing a total test setup.”

“The Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test organised by EANTC and presented at the MPLS & Ethernet World Congress 2011 involved extensive testing of MPLS and Carrier Ethernet within tight timelines,” said EANTC Managing Director Carsten Rossenhoevel. “The co-operation between Ixia and Calnex facilitated rapid testing in this time-critical test environment.
