Calnex Solutions announced the successful demonstration of 1588v2 PTP (Precision Timing Protocol) to carry accurate timing over Ethernet at the EANTC Interoperability test event, showcased at Carrier Ethernet World Congress (CEWC). This was the first time that clock synchronisation using 1588v2 PTP has been demonstrated in a public multi-vendor Mobile Backhaul test. The demonstration was done with equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks and Symmetricom.

The Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi WCDMA BTS is the first solution to offer integrated clock synchronisation recovery to enable Service Providers to migrate to packet-based Mobile Backhaul networks. The Symmetricom TimeProvider™ 5000 IEEE 1588v2 grand master clock distributes a network reference clock to a large number of these base-stations via the packet network.


The Calnex Paragon Sync test solution replicates real packet network conditions to enable service providers to prove the performance of these technologies and deploy them with confidence.

Details of the public multi-vendor interoperability test are in the Whitepaper, which can be downloaded from the EANTC website (www.eantc.com/cewc2008). The test results show that the accuracy of clock synchronisation far exceeded the requirements for Mobile Backhaul.
